The location of the light is inland Atlantic City. The nearest city is Atlantic City, NJ. The station was first established in 1857. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1857. The light has a nominal range of 19 nautical miles. The tower height is 171 ft.

Absecon Light is the tallest lighthouse in NJ. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1933 and although the light still shines every night, it is no longer an active aid to navigation.

Absecon Light was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on Jan. 25, 1971, reference number 71000492.
