Barnegat Lighthouse or Barnegat Light is colloquially known as "Old Barney".

The light was inactive from 1944 to 2009. On January 1, 2009, at 5:00 pm, the 150th anniversary of the lighting of the current tower, Barnegat Lighthouse activated its beacon once more. Today the light is lit from dusk to dawn.

A 'flashing' light is a light in which the total duration of light in a period is shorter than the total duration of darkness and the appearances of light (flashes) are usually of equal duration. So in the 10 second period, the light is on for less than 5 then off for more than 5.

Barnegat Light was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on Jan. 25, 1971, reference number 71000512.
