The location of the light is E point of Hawaii Island. The nearest city is Pahoa, HI. The station was first established in 1929. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1934.

The lighthouse is a white pyramidal skeleton tower.

The tower has a flashing white light at a focal plane height of 156 ft above mean high water. The light has a nominal range of 24 nautical miles. The tower height is 153 ft. The light has a period of 15 seconds.
