About Cape Sharp Lighthouse

The location of the light is on the south tip of Cape Sharp at the entrance to Parrsboro Harbour. The nearest city is West Bay, NS. The station was first established in 1886. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1886.

The lighthouse is a white tapered square wood tower with a red lantern.

The tower has a occulting white light at a focal plane height of 60 ft above mean high water. The tower height is 35 ft. The light has a period of 10 seconds.

An 'occulting' light is a light in which the total duration of light in a period is longer than the total duration of darkness and the interval of darkness (eclipses) are usually of equal duration. So in the 10 second period, the light is on for more than 5 then off for less than 5.
