About Half Moon Reef Light

The location of the light is Port Lavaca. The nearest city is Port Lavaca, TX. The station was first established in 1858. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1858.

The lighthouse was originally located on the southern end of Halfmoon Reef on the eastern side of Matagorda Bay. The light was deactivated in 1942. The US Coast Guard sold the lighthouse and it was separated from its pilings and traveled by barge up to Point Comfort. In 1978, the owner gave the lighthouse to the Calhoun County Historic Commission and transported to its current location.
