The location of the light is southern coast of Puerto Rico. The nearest city is Ponce, PR. The station was first established in 1887. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1887.

The lighthouse is a gray cylindrical tower on center of flat-roofed dwelling.

The tower has a flashing white light at a focal plane height of 297 ft above mean high water. The light has a nominal range of 10 nautical miles. The light has a period of 30 seconds.

The lighthouse is also known as Faro de la Isla de Caja de Muertos. The light was automated in 1945.

A 'flashing' light is a light in which the total duration of light in a period is shorter than the total duration of darkness and the appearances of light (flashes) are usually of equal duration. So in the 30 second period, the light is on for less than 15 then off for more than 15.
