About Little Cumberland Island

The location of the light is the north end of Little Cumberland Island. The nearest city is Brunswick, GA. The station was first established in 1838. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1838.

The lighthouse is a conical tower.

The tower had a fixed white light at a focal plane height of 71 ft above mean high water. The light had a nominal range of 14 nautical miles. The tower height is 60 ft.

The light was deactivated in 1915. The keeper's house and all other light station buildings were demolished in 1968, but the tower remains. The tower was renovated in 1994 to 1998. The island is privately owned.

Little Cumberland Island was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on Aug. 8, 1989, reference number 89001407.
