The location of the light is Straits of Mackinac Passage. The nearest city is Mackinaw City, MI. The station was first established in 1890. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1892.

The tower had a light at a focal plane height of 62 ft above mean high water. The light had a nominal range of 14 nautical miles. The tower height is 50 ft.

The light was deactivated in 1957.

Mackinac Point (Old) Light was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 1, 1969, reference number 69000068.
