About Makapu'u Point Light

The location of the light is Makapu'u Head, the E point of Oahu. The nearest city is Waimanalo, HI. The station was first established in 1909. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1909.

The lighthouse is a white cylindrical concrete tower.

Obscured west of 011, and may be obscured westward of 154 by points northward of light. Lighted throughout 24 hours. Emergency light of reduced intensity when main light is extinguished. Operates during periods of darkness only.

An 'occulting' light is a light in which the total duration of light in a period is longer than the total duration of darkness and the interval of darkness (eclipses) are usually of equal duration. So in the 10 second period, the light is on for more than 5 then off for less than 5.
