About Mount Desert Rock Light

The location of the light is on Mount Desert Rock - approx 17 miles south of Mount Desert Island. The nearest city is Frenchboro, ME. The station was first established in 1830. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1847.

The lighthouse is a granite conical tower.

The tower has a flashing white light at a focal plane height of 75 ft above mean high water. The light has a nominal range of 20 nautical miles. The tower height is 75 ft. The light has a period of 15 seconds.
