About Point Arguello Light

The location of the light is Santa Barbara Channel. The nearest city is Lompoc, CA. The station was first established in 1901. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1967.

In 1967, the original dwellings associated with the lighthouse were razed and a new metal tower was installed.

Today, Point Arguello is part of Vandenberg Air Force Base, and as such is typically off limits for civilians.

A 'flashing' light is a light in which the total duration of light in a period is shorter than the total duration of darkness and the appearances of light (flashes) are usually of equal duration. So in the 15 second period, the light is on for less than 7.5 then off for more than 7.5.
