About Sands Point Light

The location of the light is the village of Sands Point. The nearest city is Port Washington, NY. The station was first established in 1809. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1809.

The light was deactivated in 1922. The light and lantern room were removed from the tower. The beacon was moved to an automated steel skeleton tower located offshore at the end of Sands Point which is still in use.

On October 27, 1992, the Village of Sands Point and the Landmarks Commission designated the Lighthouse as a village landmark.

The lighthouse and property are privately owned.
