The location of the light is the north shore of Lake Superior. The nearest city is Beaver Bay, MN. The station was first established in 1910. The current lighthouse was first lit in 1910. The light had a nominal range of 22 nautical miles. The tower height is 54 ft.

Every year on November 10th, the navigational beacon, decommissioned in 1969, is lit in memory of the 29 men lost aboard the Edmund Fitzgerald and all the other vessels lost on the Great Lakes.
